Financial Support for Children

A parent’s responsibility to provide financial support for his or her children takes priority over all commitments, even when the children do not reside with that parent. A parent who has the care and control of a child or children can seek support from the other parent by either of two means:

  1. Court ordered payments of maintenance; or

  2. Assessment of child support through the Child Support Agency.

Only one of these will apply to you.

For more information, including variation and enforcement of maintenance, download the Kells’ Fact Sheet: Financial Support for Children
