Divorce
Grounds for Divorce
The only grounds for a divorce is “irretrievable breakdown of marriage”. You must establish this by proving that you have been separated from your husband or wife for 12 months and that there is no reasonable likelihood of reconciliation.
Hearing
The Family Court will fix a date for the hearing of your divorce. Your husband or wife will need to be personally given a copy of the documentation. We can arrange to have the papers served on them on your behalf. On the day of the hearing, the Family Court will grant your divorce, but it does not become final until one month later.
