Michael’s expertise across business, property and estates law ensures that his clients are advised on the full picture, whether it is for their business or personal needs.
As an accredited specialist in property law, Michael has acted for thousands of people buying and selling real estate and leasing property. He is also experienced in subdivisions, rural issues and acting on intergenerational transfers.
Michael's niche area of expertise is acting for self managed superannuation funds to buy property and borrow money using a limited recourse borrowing arrangement, including where the lender is a bank or a related party of the SMSF's trustee. There has been a significant increase in adopting the purchase of property as an investment strategy by SMSF's, and there can be serious consequences if not done correctly. Michael's expertise in this area has proved invaluable to his clients.
Michael also works closely with local accountants to provide a complete solution to the needs of clients who own and operate businesses, from start up through to life of the business. This includes advising on structuring, property and leasing, contracts, employee issues, owner disputes and solvency issues.
Michael holds his private pilots licence, and flew a plane solo before he was able to drive by himself. He has lived and worked in the Illawarra all of his life. Outside of Kells, Michael is a passionate Formula 1 fan and rides the highs and lows of being a St George Illawarra Dragons supporter.
